Special Occasions Require Special Shoes

By Christopher John

Shoes are of course much more than just a fashion statement. We can sometimes forget that shoes when properly selected can protect more than just our feet! There is actually a kind of science to selecting the right shoe for certain situations. Lets take a look at some of the different situations where having the right shoe can make all the difference.

When working out, whether running or walking briskly, we put a lot of added strain on our feet, so we need to be prepared for that. Make sure you choose a shoe that is comfortable and has good arch support. Some shoes are specifically designed for running or walking, but generally any shoe that gives your feet plenty of arch support and comfort will due. It's a good idea to try and break in new shoes before doing a lot of walking or running in them so as to avoid blisters.

Boating or skateboarding usually requires a good deck type shoe. These shoes are sometimes made out of a canvas type material and have no arch support at all. They offer great support when walking on wet surfaces, and will give you a more stable feel when riding a skate board. (note, some skater shoes are designed more with fashion in mind than better skating ability)

Working construction, one may benefit from heavy leather type boots, perhaps with a steel toe that can help protect you feet should something heavy fall on them. Keep in mind they are on the heavy and clunky side so if you plan to do roofing you may want a lighter shoe. When doing roofing, it's really up to the individual what type of shoe to wear. Some like deck shoes with there flat no arch feel. Some like athletic shoes and still others like a more traditional type hiking shoe. One thing to remember is to make sure they feel comfortable and they fit right.

Ah, a day at the beach: Sandals are always a great selection, although I never recommend driving while wearing them! Once you get to the beach though you can quickly make the switch. Sandals will keep your feet protected from the hot sand, and are easy to kick off when you want to get in the water. Once your day of fun is done, you can slip on your regular shoes and away you go!

Choosing the right shoe can mean the difference between comfort and safety, or disaster! It pays to choose wisely.
