If You Can't Find A Job, Make One Find You

By Christopher John

With the job market jumping up and down, its hard to know what to do and where to go these days. When jobs that traditionally go to the young people of society are going to older folks that not long ago were considered "over qualified," it can be a confusing task indeed. Let's look at some qualities that can make you stand out.

I have no intention of boring you with the same old "create a good resume" nonsense. Everybody already knows that. Really, good resumes are a dime a dozen these days and although they are a stone that you don't want to leave unturned, there are other things you need to remember.

1. Let them know your a qualified trainee.

If you can't find openings for what you are trained for, don't run to McDonald's right away. If you are a business professional willing to learn, look for other openings that you can be quickly trained for. If you have the right attitude and present yourself as a qualified trainee, you can get hired, regardless of your experience.

2. Don't be afraid.

If you approach a potential employer and act nervous and uneasy, it can leave a bad impression. Just because they are sitting on the employer side of the desk doesn't mean they are smarter or better than you. Speak to them eye to eye with confidence in your voice. Don't ever be arrogant, just be positive in yourself and abilities.

3. Go in and ask for the job.

Some of the best jobs out there you will never find in the newspaper or advertised. Go into potential places of employment and submit your resume, even if they are not hiring. Keep on approaching them and letting them know of your interest in their company. Try and get an interview and sweep them off their feet. Everyone wants someone who will be an asset to their company, and you must make them see that is exactly what you are.

4. Keep trying and never give up.

A quitter never wins and a winner never quits. Keep on looking everywhere you can and don't settle for less than you are worth. If you come in begging for any job they have you'll be fortunate to get anything.

Keep on working at it and eventually you will get that job. Stay positive and focused and work hard at it. Don't give up!
