Some people just love a good treasure hunt, don't they? Have you ever spent a few hours just digging through a junk drawer in your home looking to see what you might find? This is sort of the idea behind storage unit sales. They happen each month in pretty much every community around the United States, and they can be a huge money maker for you!
These sales are simple:
The storage unit proprietor auctions off what is inside of units where the owner is behind on their payments. However, you are not allowed to go inside of the unit or look around other than to stand outside during the sale and peek with a flashlight from several feet away. If the unit is filled with boxes, you have no idea what may be inside of them. There could be rare antiques or moth eaten clothing. You just never know, which is why it is like a treasure hunt!
The owner of the storage unit complex will start the bidding. There are some serious professionals at these auctions, and they know what they are doing so you may want to go a few times and just watch without bidding. You may end up getting a whole unit full of stuff for $100 or so. You must be prepared to pay right then and there and remove the items very quickly.
This is where the fun begins! Take the stuff home and sort through it. For larger items, such as furniture, post it on Craigslist or another classified service for local pickups. Anything shippable, go to eBay and check out the values. You may find some wonderful buried treasures in those storage units. Hopefully, you will at least get back your investment and have a fun time digging for buried treasure!
