Recycling Is More Than Just Aluminum Cans

By Christopher John

Most of us have come to realize the importance of recycling our aluminum cans. This has actually been a good habit that has been carried down through generations by some since the 1960's. It of course has become more popular recently since many of us have become more "green" minded. There are however many other items that we come in contact with on daily basis in which recycling should be considered. They include..

Plastic soda bottles (polythylene terephthalate) are also highly recyclable. But don't forget you can also recycle High density polythylene or HDPE plastic items like milk jugs and laundry soap bottles. You may have to call around a bit to find who will take them in your area though.

Glass bottles and other glass products. Glass is a very recyclable material and is not being recycled by many of us. You will need to call around to see who will take it, but all clean glass colored or clear is recyclable.

Computer Monitors and televisions can be extremely hazardous to our environment when not disposed pf properly. Many communities provide special days where you can dispose of these items for free. Doing so will give you the peace of mind of knowing that they are being recycled properly.

Unused or broken Appliances have many recyclable parts, as well as the ability to be repaired and brought back into service. Pull out your local newspaper or go online to find many different appliance dealers and repair people who will pick these items up. Many of them will actually pay you for them but at very least they can be picked up free of charge.

Car Batteries and Motor oil are two more types of of recyclables that can be extremely dangerous to the environment if not disposed of properly. Fortunately both car batteries and motor oil can be recycled and used again in their formerly used capacities. You can turn them in at many different auto repair facilities for free.

So now we have covered some of the different materials that can be recycled.

There are a variety of other recyclables such as paper and steel products as well. Many of the items mentioned above can be recycled with a minimum of trouble, so we should all consider recycling them. At very least we should properly dispose of the hazardous items listed above. Doing so will provide a cleaner environment for all of us.
